The Hinge Husher™ lubricating cartridge effortlessly and magnetically attaches, then cleanly delivers lubricant in liquid form directly to the noisy hinge. Aerosol (spray on) lubricants often generate overspray that can get on the walls, doors and trim, making a mess and potentially causing poor adhesion during future painting work. Oftentimes the sprayed-on lubricant runs down the door and needs to be wiped off with a towel or facial tissue, making more of a mess and potentially getting on your hands.

Liquid lubricants are dripped from a bottle onto the hinge, or onto a towel which is then wiped on the hinge. This is messy, like the aerosol approach, and can get on your hands as well. It is likely to get on walls, trim and doors also, causing similar issues as the aerosol solution. And it’s also a one shot solution.

But if you want to be selective, try to listen to each hinge separately by putting your ear up close to it while swinging the door. If you hear a squeak coming from that particular hinge, it will need a Hinge Husher™ lubricating cartridge to eliminate the noise. 

If you end up not applying a unit to each hinge on a noisy door, and the door still squeaks after 2-3 days, you probably have several squeaky hinges on the door and will need to apply a Hinge Husher™ lubricating cartridge to each.

A hinge is made up of the cylindrical “knuckle” (typically the most visible part of the hinge) and the two flat plates (sometimes called leafs) that are screwed onto either the door or the door frame. If possible, it is best to place the Hinge Husher™ lubricating cartridge parallel to the knuckle, with the unit seated halfway on the knuckle and halfway on the visible hinge plate (where the knuckle and plate meet each other). Most importantly, make sure that the Hinge Husher™ lubricating cartridge is in contact with each of the horizontal seams in the hinge knuckle, as the seams are where noises are first generated.

The Hinge Husher™ lubricating cartridge is especially good at reducing high-pitched squeals. 

Low-pitched, choppy sounding creaks are generated by more severely damaged or dirty hinges. The Hinge Husher™ lubricating cartridge should still generally do a good job there, but it may take longer (e.g. 2-3 days) to achieve noise reduction and in rare cases may not completely eliminate the creak.

For simple squeaks, The Hinge Husher™ lubricating cartridge often eliminates the noise immediately after applying the unit and swinging the door open and closed several times to “work in” the lubricant.

The Hinge Husher™ lubricating cartridge uses natural capillary action to seep lubricant ever more deeply into hinge seams over time.  As a result, it can sometimes take 2-3 days to reduce the noise on extremely dirty or damaged hinges.  

The lubrication process can, however, be accelerated in extreme situations by swinging the door open and closed very many times after applying the Hinge Husher unit. Also, wiping the Hinge Husher™ lubricating cartridge around the entire hinge knuckle first before setting it in its final position at the knuckle/plate junction can help to accelerate lubricant absorption into the knuckle seams, regardless of hinge condition. If you've applied the product to all hinges on the door and it is still crackling after 3 days of use, the problem might be a more severe hinge issue than lack of lubrication.

Crackling could be caused by severely damaged/rusty hinges, which might not be repairable by lubrication and may have to be replaced outright.

A more likely reason is that one or more of the hinges is loosely attached to the door. This problem can often be addressed by using a screwdriver to tighten each of the screws that hold the hinge plates to the door and trim.

The Hinge Husher™ lubricating cartridge generally works on most interior room doors (bedroom, den, bathroom, closet,…) manufactured in the last 70 years or so. It will work on some exterior doors (front, back). It is not designed for cabinets (kitchen, bathroom,…), garage doors, car doors, other…. 

Virtually all door hinges are ferrous, allowing the Hinge Husher™ lubricating cartridge magnets to attach to them. Even hinges the appear to be brass or nickel typically are magnetic, as those metals are only applied as a thin plating/finish coat.

The Hinge Husher™ lubricating cartridge's shape and size are designed primarily for typical door hinges found on internal doors between rooms, on closets, and bathrooms. It is unlikely to work on other doors, such as cabinets, garage, car, etc

Do not use the product where pets or minors will be unsupervised. Each Hinge Husher™ lubricating cartridge uses two powerful magnets that can be dangerous if both are ingested.

If you need to quiet hinges in such locations, apply the product under total supervision, and then remove it immediately after the hinge is quieted. 

If product is dropped on floor surface, clean up immediately with soap and water to minimize the risk of slipping/falls. If lubricant contacts skin, wash off thoroughly with lukewarm water and soap. If lubricant contacts eyes, flush gently with lukewarm water for five minutes. If lubricant is ingested, DO NOT induce vomiting. Rinse mouth thoroughly with water.

It certainly is possible to use the product on one hinge until it is quiet, and then move it to the next noisy hinge. However, this approach is neither recommended nor warrantied, as it reduces the duration of quieting because the unit is no longer there to deliver a continuous rejuvenation of the lubricant to the hinge.

Also, the product can no longer trap hinge grit once it is removed from the hinge.

For most hinges, if the product is installed as recommended, it should remain in place over time. But some hinges have surfaces that are more “grabby” than others, or have been installed incorrectly, which can cause the unit to move over time. Thanks to the magnetic connection, however, it is highly unlikely to fall off due to the reorientation.

The Hinge Husher™ lubricating cartridge is designed to minimize messes. Refilling by hand increases the odds of a messy outcome. Also, the Hinge Husher™ lubricating cartridge often cleans some amount of hinge grit off of dirty hinges while it works. That debris will build up in the pad over time, so ultimately it is best to just replace the unit outright when it reaches end of functional life
